CRASH KILLS WOMAN ON NEW YEAR’S DAY 2023 DURING HUGE COLLISION

Benita Lanier, 67, was killed on New Year’s Day 2023 January 1st on Shamrock Drive Charlotte, NC. Fredis Omar Umanzor Vazquez, 34, is accused of killing Benita, charged with felony death by motor vehicle.

The crash was at approximately 1:28 a.m. A two vehicle crash occurred involving a sedan style car and a Chevrolet Suburban SUV. The driver of the Chevrolet was Fredis. Danny Lanier, 69, was the driver of the sedan. Benita was a passenger in the sedan.

The initial investigation indicates the Chevrolet Suburban struck the passenger side of the sedan at a high rate of speed on Shamrock Road. The crash caused the vehicles to catch fire. Benita died on the scene. Danny and Fredis were transported to the hospital with injuries. 

Danny was screened for impairment and was found not to be impaired.

Fredis was charged with felony death by motor vehicle, possession of open container in a motor vehicle, and no operator’s license.
