CITY BUS DRIVER CHARGED WITH HITTING AND KILLING MAN WALKING IN CHARLOTTE

Luis Garcia, 54, is the bus operator for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) that is charged with killing Michael Skelton, 58, on North Tryon Street Charlotte, NC.

On May 26, 2020, Michael was at a bus stop on North Tryon Street when he was struck by a C.A.T.S. bus driven by Luis. Michael was at the bus stop when the bus arrived at the stop. Michael attempted to get the driver to stop and was hit.

The driver of the bus then drove away from the scene of the crash without providing aid to the Michael. Toxicology test results are pending for Michael. Luis is charged with Felony Hit and Run.

All CATS bus operators undergo a rigorous driver training program upon employment and are held to the highest of industry standards. However, Luis was terminated after the crash.
