On July 1, 2023 Keith Austin, 16, died on Lake Norman in Cornelius, NC. Keith was a star football and rugby player, while also being a scholar student at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC.
Keith was on a boat on July 1st with friends. Keith later went for a swim in the lake, but as he was swimming, the under current took him below the water.
Keith never resurfaced. The boat turned around to try to get Keith, but he had already been taken under. A search was launched by N.C. Wildlife officials.
Keith’s dead body was not found until the next day on July 2nd around 4 p.m. in Lake Norman.
