3 HIT BY CAR AND ONE KILLED NEAR GARINGER HIGH SCHOOL, TRAFFIC WAS SHUT DOWN

Date:

Antonio Garriett, 51, was charged after being involved in a major crash that killed 69-year-old Adrian Perez near Garinger High School in Charlotte, NC. Two other victims sustained serious injuries during the crash and were sent to a hospital. Antonio had a revoked license and was restricted from driving, officials say.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 24, 2021, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred near the intersection of Eastway Drive and East Sugar Creek Road. The massive collision shut down traffic in the area for hours.

The preliminary investigation indicates a Dodge Caravan which was being driven by Adrian had become disabled in the roadway. Adrian was joined by two other pedestrians in an attempt to assist with his disabled van. A 2006 Mercedes-Benz S500 driven by Antonio was traveling when it struck Adrian and all the pedestrians who were standing at the rear of the van trying to move it.

The Mercedes-Benz then struck the van in the back.

Adrian was pronounced deceased on the scene. Paramedics transported the two remaining pedestrians to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries they sustained as a result of the crash.

Antonio was determined not to be impaired, and speed was not a contributing factor to this collision. Antonio however, was charged with driving while license revoked, failure to register a motor vehicle, and no liability insurance.
