UNITED STATES NOW REQUIRES SOCIAL MEDIA INFO FROM VISA APPLICANTS

Date:

The United States of America State Department has begun requesting most US visa applicants provide information on their social media accounts.

The plans call for nearly all US visa applicants to submit their social media handles and other information.

The State Department said the forms for both immigrant and non-immigrant visa applicants have been updated to request additional information, including social media identifiers.

The social media requirement is a result of a memorandum issued by President Donald Trump in 2017 on “vetting” for people coming to the United States and a provision of an executive order that blocked entry to the United States for people from several majority-Muslim countries.

The social media requirement is expected to affect 15 million people within the next year alone.
