At a immigration checkpoint in Salton City, California two men were arrested after being suspected of smuggling 24 illegal immigrants.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 a.m. on February 21, 2021 when two men driving two separate trucks approached a immigration checkpoint. The first man was driving a blue Ford F-350 truck hauling a white hauler trailer. The second driver was driving a white Ford F-250 truck that was also hauling a white hauler trailer.
While Border Patrol agents were conducting their investigation on the drivers during primary inspection, a Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to both of the trailers. Both drivers were referred to secondary for further inspection.
During secondary inspection, Border Patrol agents inspected the trailers and discovered 24 illegal immigrants concealed inside. Agents safely removed all the suspects and conducted welfare checks.
Additionally, one of the drivers admitted to having cocaine for personal use and a handgun legally registered to his name.
Both drivers were United States citizens. The 24 illegal immigrants included 22 adult men and 2 adult women. They all were placed under arrest. The vehicles, trailers, handgun, and cocaine were seized.
