$900,000 CASH CONFISCATED BY POLICE DURING TRAFFIC STOP

Date:

Monroe Police Department officers seized more than $900,000 Saturday during a traffic stop in Monroe, NC on May 16, 2020. Two officers stopped a Ford pickup truck shortly after 10 p.m. in the area of Rocky River Road and U.S. 74.

A police K-9 detected the cash that was in vacuum-sealed plastic bags was used for drug trafficking, police said. Although there is no proof the cash was the result of drug transactions.

Monroe Police Chief Bryan Gilliard says:

“Being able to take this money, which is clearly the by-product of drug trafficking, off the streets and out of the hands of drug dealers is a great thing for our community. I am extremely proud of our officers and our K-9 program.”

The Monroe Police Department is still conducting an ongoing investigation into the seizure.
