Detention Officer Chandler Craig, 29, was arrested on September 22, 2021, accused of assaulting an inmate at the Mecklenburg County Jail located at 801 East 4th St, Charlotte, NC.
Chandler was charged with simple assault following a September 13, 2021 fight at the jail with an inmate.
The incident began as a verbal dispute with the jail inmate. The inmate was allegedly handcuffed when the dispute escalated to a physical altercation.
Physical force was allegedly initiated by the jail guard. The alleged physical force was not within policies, procedures, and training. The altercation was caught on video, but there were sufficient details of the incident that were left out of a narrative.
Chandler was fired on September 22, 2021 due to the arrest and incident.
