CHARLOTTE COP ARRESTED, ACCUSED OF COMMUNICATING THREATS

Date:

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Officer Candyce Sellars, 38, was arrested on July 14, 2022 in Charlotte, NC. Officer Candyce is accused of threatening 2 people. Officer Candyce played women’s basketball for High Point University in the early 2000’s.

On July 13, 2022, officers responded to a 911 call regarding a victim being threatened with bodily harm, allegedly by a known suspect. During the investigation, officers learned of a second victim who also reported being threatened with bodily harm.

The suspect was identified as Officer Candyce Sellars. A patrol supervisor responded to the scene and immediately notified the CMPD Internal Affairs Division, who then began an internal investigation.

Detectives presented this case to a Mecklenburg County Magistrate, who in lieu of a summons, issued two warrants on two counts of communicating threats for the arrest of Officer Candyce.

Officer Candyce turned herself in to the Mecklenburg County Detention Center and was arrested, charged with 2 counts of communicating threats.

Officer Candyce has been employed with the police department since April 2015 and was assigned to the Community Services Division as a school resource officer. Officer Candyce has been placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the Internal Affairs Division investigation.

Chief of Police Johnny Jennings said:

It is always disheartening to me when I learn that one of our officers has violated the very laws that we are sworn to uphold. Professional accountability is a priority for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and our officers are expected to maintain this standard at all times.

In jail, Officer Candyce was likely placed in protective custody since she is a cop. Cops in jail with the very inmates that they arrest don’t mix well.
