POLICE OFFICER GETS IN SHOOTOUT WITH OWN DEPARTMENT

Ex Miami-Dade Police Lieutenant Evelyn Fernandez got into a shootout with the Miami Dade Police Department in Miami-Dade County, FL on October 26, 2023. Evelyn is the ex-girlfriend of former Miami-Dade Mayor and Police Director Carlos Alvarez. Evelyn left the police force several years ago.

Evelyn is accused of shooting at her most current ex-boyfriend other than Alvarez at a home in Miami-Dade around the afternoon.

The male victim was not hit, and he fled from Evelyn. Police were called and Evelyn barricaded herself in a home. 

A police SWAT team was called out and a standoff lasted for 12 hours. At one point Evelyn fired several shots in the home during the standoff. 

Negotiators tried to talk Evelyn out of the situation, eventually aerial drones and heat sensors had to be deployed to acquire information.

Cops later tore a hole in the roof and got Evelyn out, arresting her. Evelyn was charged with attempted murder, resisting, and battery.

In 2016, ex Mayor Carlos Alvarez was arrested on domestic violence charges after Evelyn filed a domestic battery charge against him.3 months later, Evelyn was arrested charged with burglary and criminal mischief, accused of breaking into Alvarez’s apartment.
