A female was killed during a hazing Turtle’s sorority initiation at Wilberforce University. The Delta Sorority at University of North Carolina Greensboro was banned for years after a black female student was hazed
18-year-old Savanna Jones was killed on April 30, 2026 during a hazing encounter at Wilberforce University in Ohio. Savanna was pledging the Turtles sorority. Now Savanna’s family is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Wilberforce University and the Turtles sorority.
Savanna was just a freshman student at Wilberforce University, she died during a hazing ritual. Savanna decided to pledge and join the Turtles sorority.
During the pledging process the pledgees were taken to a dorm on campus and they were forced to drink whole bottles of alcohol liquor and recite hard poems and answer riddles. The recruits are not allowed to gain membership into the Turtles if they stop drinking, if they vomit, or if they’re unable to drink liquor. However, Wilberforce University has a non alcohol campus policy.
Savanna drunk the bottle of liquor as demanded by her Turtles sorority big sisters. Savanna became faint and could not stand. Savanna passed out and died. A photo circulated around 10:30 p.m. showing her lying on a bed unconscious.
The Turtles sorority members then took Savanna’s dead body back to her dorm across campus and left her there. Other students saw Savanna dead on the ground and called paramedics.
Savanna was pronounced deceased on scene. The family of Savanna is now filing a lawsuit against Wilberforce University and the Turtles sorority.
Fraternities and sororities are known to haze students all the time. The Delta sorority at The University of North Carolina Greensboro was kicked off of campus for several years around 2012 due to a black female student being hazed during the ‘hell week’ initiation process.
‘Hell Week’ is what sororities and fraternities explain as the most grueling hardest part of the pledging process. Alpha and Omega fraternities have a ritual that requires most pledgees to spit raw egg yokes into each others mouths, the last person in the line has to swallow the raw egg after it has been in all the other recruit’s mouths.
Kappas have to act a certain way when the lights go off in the dark.
