Date:

On May 31, 2019 Johnathan Autry, 29, was sentenced to spend more than 32 years in prison after a jury convicted him of robbing a pregnant woman and then holding her hostage at gunpoint when he was confronted by police.

The jury found him guilty of robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and the lesser-included offense of misdemeanor breaking or entering.

The jury also found Autry guilty of being a habitual felon.

On Monday, September 25, 2017, at 10:03 p.m., officers in Charlotte, NC responded to a breaking and entering call for service in progress on Holly Street.

Upon arrival, officers arrived on the scene and encountered Autry inside of a home.

Mr. Autry exited the home with a pregnant woman he was holding hostage at gunpoint. Officer Shon Sheffield, Officer Joseph Bauer, and Officer James Tindall perceived an imminent deadly threat to the woman and subsequently fired their weapons striking Mr. Autry.

The woman was unharmed during the incident and was transported to the hospital as a precaution.

Medic responded and transported Mr. Autry to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries, released and then arrested.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office reviewed this matter and found the officers acted lawfully.

Autry has prior convictions that include common law robbery and multiple counts of felony larceny. Autry also has pending charges in counties.
