CALIFORNIA DRUG DOG SNIFFS OUT COCAINE HIDDEN IN DASHBOARD

Date:

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican citizen who had nearly 10 pounds of cocaine hidden inside his car in Campo, California.

On June 19 agents assigned to the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on westbound Interstate 8 observed the approach of a silver 2007 Volkswagen Jetta. The primary agent referred the male driver to secondary inspection.

In secondary inspection, a Border Patrol K-9 team performed a sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in an alert. At that time, agents inspected the vehicle and discovered four bundles hidden in an after-market compartment inside the dashboard.

Agents removed the four bundles, which weighed 9.88 pounds. The substance tested positive for cocaine and was valued at $98,800.

The driver, a 25-year-old Mexican citizen who possessed a Border Crosser Card, was placed under arrest and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The U.S. Border Patrol seized the vehicle.
