LAKE ARBOR APARTMENTS EVICTING TENANTS DUE TO RENOVATION, SOME FACE HOMELESSNESS

Date:

The owner of the Lake Arbor Apartments on Tuckaseegee Road in Charlotte, NC near Interstate 85 is notifying residents that they need to relocate. The owner plans to renovate the entire property, according to a letter. The letter presented to officials says 78 of the 177 occupied units have expired or otherwise have invalid leases and residents must be out in 30 days. There are some tenants that have until December 31, 2019 to leave.

Lake Arbor is a low-cost apartment building designed for formerly homeless people, families with very low incomes, and others with scarce housing options.

In the past many tenants have complained that Lake Arbor apartments have mold, roaches, and rats. Unrelated, the Ink N Ivy restaurant had roaches in their liquor room in January 2019.

Code enforcement officials ordered improvements to Lake Arbor apartments after inspecting units and finding residences with no working heat, air conditioning, decaying floors, exposed electrical wires and other unsafe and deplorable conditions.
