$325,000 IN METH FOUND IN MAN’S CAR AT BORDER CROSSING

Date:

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers working at the Bridge of the Americas border crossing seized 88.9 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $325,000 on July 7, 2020 near El Paso, Texas.

The seizure was made shortly before 2 p.m. when a 22-year-old United States citizen male arrived from Mexico driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The primary U.S. Customs officer selected the vehicle for a secondary inspection due to anomalies in the vehicle.

During the secondary inspection, a U.S. Customs drug-sniffing dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and an X-ray examination revealed several anomalies in the vehicle’s quarter panels and rear bumper. Officers extracted 89.9 pounds of methamphetamine from the vehicle.

The subject was arrested by U.S. Customs officers and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations to face charges for the failed smuggling attempt.
