OVER 200 PEOPLE ARRESTED IN TRACTOR-TRAILERS DURING IMMIGRATION SMUGGLING

Date:

During a busy weekend Border Patrol agents stopped 3 human smuggling attempts at checkpoints in Laredo, Texas and apprehended 230 illegal immigrants.

Beginning on February 19 through February 22 of the year 2021, human smugglers attempted to use tractor-trailers to smuggle illegal immigrants from the countries of Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras through different Laredo Sector checkpoints.

In each incident, the vigilance of agents, along with service canines foiled these attempts. All the concealed individuals were found to be illegally present in the United States.

In all three events the individuals along with the drivers were placed under arrest pending further investigation. The drivers were all U.S. citizens.

Border Patrol seized the tractors and trailers. Most of the individuals were not wearing any personal protective equipment to combat the Coronavirus. They were all medically screened and provided masks. None required medical attention.

Despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, smugglers continue to show little or no regard for the safety of America by indiscriminately smuggling criminals and convicted felons into the country.
