GAS COMING SOON, COLONIAL PIPELINE RESUME OPERATIONS AFTER HACK

Date:

The Colonial Pipeline company announced on May 12, 2021 that the hacked oil pipeline is resuming operations. The east coast main pipeline was hacked by a expert computer group in Russia identified as the DarkSide.

The group launched a cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline. The attack caused gas disruptions in states up and down the east coast. Lines in Charlotte, NC were extremely long at gas stations, as only a few pumps had gas.

Lines were backed up into oncoming traffic at many gas stations. There were even some gas stations that ran out of gas completely.

Other gas stations were forced to raise gas prices, some as high as $4.00 a gallon. Colonial Pipeline runs the nation’s largest gas pipeline. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm tweeted that Colonial Pipeline will restart operations immediately.

In a statement, Colonial Pipeline said:

“Following this restart, it will take several days for the product delivery supply chain to return to normal. Some markets served by Colonial Pipeline may experience, or continue to experience, intermittent service interruptions during the start-up period. Colonial will move as much gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel as is safely possible and will continue to do so until markets return to normal.”
