The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is conducting a CMPD officer-involved shooting investigation that happened on Old Interstate Road Charlotte, NC.
On Thursday, May 27, 2021 in the afternoon officers were at a motel attempting to speak with a suspect matching the description in a recent shooting and armed robbery.
The suspect fled on foot and shot a firearm at officers. The officers perceived a lethal threat and one officer fired a service weapon, striking the suspect. Medic transported the suspect to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.
No officers were injured in this incident.
The SBI will be the primary investigative agency for this investigation. As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, the Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation to determine whether policies and procedures were adhered to during the incident.
The officers will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard policy whenever an officer discharges a service weapon.
