Kyle Harris, 28, was a guard at the Mecklenburg County Jail in Charlotte, NC. Kyle was fired after being arrested on June 7, 2021. Kyle is accused of sexually assaulting an inmate at the jail identified as 21-year-old Haleem Gilliland.
The jail is located at 801 East 4th Street. On May 20, 2021, detectives began conducting an investigation into a sexual assault where Detention Officer Kyle was accused of sexually assaulting Haleem.
Haleem was identified by the jail as a male inmate. Haleem raised claims that he was sexually assualted inside the jail.
Evidence was collected and Kyle was identified as a suspect, officials say. On June 7, 2021, Kyle was located and arrested.
Kyle is charged with 3 counts of 2nd degree sex offense, attempted 2nd degree sex offense, two counts of sexual battery, and sexual assault by custodian.
After Kyle was criminally charged, he was fired from the jail. Kyle’s employment began August 16, 2017.
