BABY DIES AFTER COCAINE FOUND IN SYSTEM, PARENTS ARRESTED

The baby had ingested measurable levels of cocaine via a feeding bottle

A 4-month-old baby died from having cocaine in its bodily system in Newberry County, South Carolina. The parents of the baby were arrested on June 25, 2021. Brady Wearn, 18, and Mary Bedenbaugh, 17, are the parents of the baby.

Brady and Mary were both charged with homicide by child abuse and unlawful conduct toward a child. The baby died on May 2, 2021. The investigation took over a month for the parents to be charged. 

On May 2nd deputies responded to a residence where a 4-month-old child was found unresponsive and not breathing. The baby was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead.

According to toxicology reports, a measurable amount of cocaine was in the baby’s system, there was also cocaine on the baby’s feeding bottles. The coroner ruled the manner of the baby’s death was a homicide.

Brady and Mary submitted to a drug screening test; both tested positive for cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana.
