Orlando Mickens, 21, was arrested and charged following a shooting in Charlotte, NC.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2020, an off-duty CMPD police officer was operating an unmarked police vehicle on East WT Harris Boulevard when he witnessed a suspect shooting into a car occupied by two adults and two children who were two and five years old. The occupants of the car were uninjured.

During the shooting, the front windshield of the officer’s unmarked police vehicle was also struck by gunfire. The officer was uninjured and is not believed to be an intended target.

The suspect identified as Orlando allegedly fled.

The preliminary investigation indicated this incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Orlando and an occupant of the car targeted. Detectives worked quickly with the Crime Reduction Unit to locate and arrest Orlando.

As a result of this arrest, officers located a rifle and pistol. Orlando is charged with five counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.
