VIDEO: DRUG DISPUTE ERUPTS INTO SHOOTOUT AT GAS STATION, SCHOOL BUS GETS HIT

Date:

Video shows Nelson Handy, 30, and Jimmy Alexander, 37, getting into a shootout in Charlotte, NC at a Citgo gas station. In March 2020 Nelson plead guilty to his crimes and was sentenced to several years in prison. Video of the shooting surfaced in October 2017.

Around 7:30 a.m. on October 12, 2017, Nelson pulled into a gas station at the corner of The Plaza and Parkwood Avenue in Charlotte. After entering the gas station and paying for his gas, he returned to his vehicle to fill up his gas tank. While Nelson was standing next to his vehicle, Jimmy pulled up in a vehicle on the opposite side of the gas pump.

As Jimmy walked around the gas pump, Nelson saw him, and the pair had a heated conversation. Jimmy produced a firearm and attempted to shoot Nelson multiple times.

One of Jimmy’s shots struck a vehicle that was parked in front of the gas station and had one occupant. Nelson began to run away, and Jimmy returned to his vehicle and sped off. As Jimmy drove away, Nelson went to his vehicle and pulled out a gun.

Nelson shot at Jimmy multiple times. One of his shots struck a passing school bus. A bus driver and 19 children were on board, and fortunately, no one was injured.

The next day, as police attempted to apprehend Nelson, he fled from officers in his car, reaching speeds up to 100 mph in residential areas and weaving in and out of traffic. Officers lost sight of the vehicle briefly but located the vehicle and Nelson a few minutes later.

Nelson pled guilty to discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. A judge sentenced Nelson to 84-133 months in prison.

Jimmy previously pled guilty in connection with this case.
