Date:

On Tuesday March 9, 2021, three detention officers and a sergeant were injured during an incident with an inmate at the Mecklenburg County Jail located at 801 East 4th St Charlotte, NC.

24-year old Dequan Timmons is the inmate that was involved in the fight. In the morning before 8 a.m. a pod officer ordered all inmates to lock down, but Dequan allegedly refused.

The pod officer called for assistance, a sergeant and two other detention officers responded. The inmate was asked again to lock down, but he refused. The inmate was threatened to be sent to the Disciplinary Detention Unit.

Dequan then removed his hands from his pants allegedly holding a sharp object, he then lunged toward the officers and a struggle ensued. A guard was cut in the head and was not cleared to return to work after the encounter. The sergeant suffered a wrist injury while trying to remove the object from Dequan’s hand.
