7-year-old Zakylen Harris was shot and killed on April 21, 2021 in Hickory, NC around 11 p.m. Zakylen was riding in a car with his mother when the mother accidentally cut someone off. The suspect vehicle then pulled up beside the car Zakylen and his family were in. A white woman with blonde hair yelled profanities and then bullets rang out. Several shots were fired and the suspect vehicle sped off.
The shooting was on Tate Boulevard SE.
Zakylen was shot in the neck and was rushed to a local hospital where he later died. Zakylen’s younger siblings were in the car too, officials say they were not injured in the shooting. Zakylen was only in the second grade. Local authorities are searching for a suspect.
